I believe in the power of hope, opportunity and the capacity of one individual to be a catalyst for change. I am a life-long learner, an educator by profession, a social justice advocate, a champion for the underdog, most particularly for girls and women.
As co-founder of Change Her World, a Canadian registered charity based in Stratford ON, I have had the privilege to witness first hand the transformation of girls and women in Malawi, Africa through the power of education, as the many barriers to a successful and happy school experience are addressed and hope and opportunity replace despair and hopelessness. Educated girls become independent women, raising healthier children, contributing to society and passing on to their children the power of an education.
After 31 years of teaching , I am still learning, instrumental in giving others a chance for a better life and reveling in each girl’s success. In addition, it is a joy to inspire other women in my life to become part of this adventure in a myriad of ways. My colleague Carol and I never tire of telling the story of how the charity was created, how it works, our challenges and successes and how it has grown beyond our expectations.
